John Gibbon

AI & Product Executive

Profile

John is an accomplished AI and product executive with a proven track record of scaling fintech and SaaS businesses and platforms at both private and public companies. He brings a unique combination of technical fluency (Ph.D., CTO, VP of Engineering), business leadership (President, GM, Board member), and deep product expertise (Chief Product Officer, SVP of Product, lecturer at Google, instructor at Stanford). Over the past decade, he has built and monetized AI products at SAP and Visa while also publishing, lecturing, and advising on the strategic evolution of AI.

Professional Background

Most recently, John served as the VP of Platforms at Visa, where he applied AI to help scale commercial offerings including data solutions and virtual payments, and where he established the integrated partner ecosystem. Previously, as SVP of Platform and GM at SAP Concur, he oversaw platform products, partnerships, and Concur AI Labs. Earlier in his career he worked at Salesforce, Moody’s KMV, a JPMorgan Chase subsidiary, and a fintech acquired by State Street. He has served on multiple software company boards, including two fintechs he co-founded.

Education

Dr. Gibbon holds a B.S. in electrical engineering and a B.A. in philosophy from the University of Notre Dame, and a M.S. and Ph.D. in computer engineering from Boston University, where he was a GRATE fellow. He has taught the course “Building Software Products: from Strategy to Sales” at Stanford in its Continuing Studies program and completed executive programs at Stanford, MIT, INSEAD, and Wharton.

Furthermore

John is an endurance athlete having recently run rim-to-rim across the Grand Canyon and swum across Lake Tahoe and around San Francisco. He serves as the board president for Beyond Emancipation, a nonprofit supporting foster youth in transition to adulthood; and previously served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Honduras, where he became fluent in Spanish. He claims to love learning languages – but admits he often forgets how to say “hello” and “thank you” when traveling abroad.
